Hello there!
All along I wondered, from where/who exactly did I inherit my fashion sense, until my mom styled me for my shoot, sometime ago for the first time. I mean, of course when I was little she’d dress me up for birthday parties that I didn’t appreciate much back then, cut to, today I cannot even think of buying a piece of cloth without seeking her approval. Gradually, I adopted a middle path where I’d dress up keeping both our ideas in mind, because you can never really afford to disappoint your mom.
Mom has always believed in keeping things distinctly simple and while growing up I never saw her pay much attention to how she dressed up. She was the kinds who’d strictly adhere to the dress code- nothing more, nothing less. Slowly, she gave up on wearing fancy shoes, kajal and lipstick too. The latter two she wouldn’t apply unless I reminded her of them. A lot of things have lead to this attitude of hers but it’s safe to say she was never into dressing up, her style was always understated.
Then a fashion wave came along and hit her daughter, to an extent that we are complete opposites. I have to have my jewellery, footwear, hairdo sorted before I begin dressing up. When I started my fashion blog my mother always took keen interest in it but never really interfered with the looks I put together besides of course, when I’d be making a fashion faux-pas. So, it wasn’t until last month ago that she actually, literally styled me. That’s when I found the answer to the question I’d been looking for. I got all of this from my mom, just that I am a more elaborate version of her. Understandably, that was one of my most read blog posts.
That’s when I decided to make this a series. Here’s the second one! (I know this has been one of the longest introduction to my blogs)
Let’s get cracking to the fashion part before you guys get bored.
Besides, styling these aztec print cotton pants with a kurta, I’d been meaning to style differently. I wanted the print to be more visible and the pants to be the dominant part of the outfit. That’s when mom came to my rescue. She asked me to wear, this tribal jewellery set and this waist-coat, with the pants.
I was skeptical because black is not my colour and also this outfit had just too much of it. Secondly I felt, the jewellery would just be a little extra for the outfit. All of this was until I actually wore it. The result is what you can see. And, of course I did my bit of adding a slight amount of colour with the lipstick. 😛
For someone who’s always willing to experiment with their sense of style, you could wear it when you’re out with your friends for dinner or wherever you’d wish to. For those of you, who’d think it to be a bit too-much for a day out, you could wear it to a specific occasion. It all depends on you, your mood and the kind of people you’re hanging out with! Also, always remember- “You can never be overdressed or overeducated ” – Oscar Wilde 😉
